1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They allow the site to remember things — like your language preference, that you are logged in, or which sessions you have bookmarked. Some cookies are set by us; others are set by services we embed.
2. Cookies we use
We try to keep this list short and meaningful. Strictly-necessary cookies do not require your consent. Optional cookies require consent through the banner on your first visit.
Strictly necessary
pirt_session— keeps you logged in. Session cookie, removed when you close the browser.pirt_lang— remembers your language choice (EN / FR). Lasts 1 year.pirt_consent— remembers your cookie banner choice so we don't ask again. Lasts 6 months.XSRF-TOKEN— protects forms against cross-site request forgery. Session cookie.
Optional — analytics
_pk_id/_pk_ses— Matomo Analytics (self-hosted by SPREP). Anonymises the last byte of your IP address. Lasts 13 months / 30 minutes.
Optional — embedded media
- Vimeo cookies (when you press Play on an embedded conference recording).
- Map provider cookies (only if you load the embedded venue map on the conference venue page).
3. Analytics
We use Matomo, self-hosted by SPREP, instead of Google Analytics. Matomo is configured to anonymise IP addresses and to honour Do-Not-Track. We use it to understand which pages help our community and to make improvements — never to profile individuals or to advertise.
4. Third-party cookies
When you interact with embedded content from third-party platforms — such as a Vimeo video, a Stripe checkout, a Mailchimp signup form — those services may set their own cookies under their own privacy and cookie policies. We don't control those cookies and link to each provider's policy from the relevant page.
5. How to control cookies
- On this site: use the cookie banner that appears on your first visit, or click "Cookie settings" in the footer to change your choice at any time.
- In your browser: all major browsers let you block or delete cookies. See aboutcookies.org for instructions.
- Do Not Track: we respect the Do-Not-Track signal and disable analytics cookies when it is enabled.
Blocking strictly-necessary cookies will break login and form submissions; blocking analytics cookies has no functional impact.
6. Updates
If we change which cookies we use, we update this page and the cookie banner re-prompts you. The "Last updated" date at the top is always the latest revision.
