PacNEL — Pacific Network for Environmental Law
Maria-Goreti Muavesi · Patricia Parkinson
What we do
Promote legal frameworks and governance systems that advance environmental conservation, environmental justice and sustainable development.
The PacNEL — Pacific Network for Environmental Law convenes member organisations, partners and Pacific specialists around the priorities of the Pacific Islands Framework for Nature Conservation. Membership is open to anyone with expertise in the area of the group — not only PIRT member organisation staff.
Five objectives
The PacNEL — Pacific Network for Environmental Law is mandated to deliver against five objectives over the current Framework period (2026–2030).
Strengthen environmental and biodiversity law across Pacific Island countries
Build legal capacity for climate justice claims and adaptation
Codify customary tenure into national legislation
Connect Pacific lawyers into global environmental networks
Train the next generation of Pacific environmental advocates
