What we do
Integrate cultural approaches into conservation programming, policy and activities — Pacific peoples view nature and culture as one.
The NCWG — Nature Culture Working Group convenes member organisations, partners and Pacific specialists around the priorities of the Pacific Islands Framework for Nature Conservation. Membership is open to anyone with expertise in the area of the group — not only PIRT member organisation staff.
Five objectives
The NCWG — Nature Culture Working Group is mandated to deliver against five objectives over the current Framework period (2026–2030).
Embed Indigenous and Local Knowledge in conservation policy
Recognise customary tenure as a foundation for area-based conservation
Document Pacific cultural conservation practice for the global record
Support Indigenous youth pathways into conservation careers
Bridge cultural ministries and environmental ministries on shared work
