Pacific action for nature and people
PIRT is the Pacific region's leading biodiversity coalition — 16 inter-governmental, non-governmental and donor organisations working together for nature and people across the Pacific Islands since 1997.
The Framework — adopted at the 10th Pacific Conference (Noumea, 2020) alongside the Vemööre Declaration — sets the agenda all 16 PIRT members align behind. Consultation for the 2026–2030 Framework is now underway.
PIRT is the key coordination mechanism for the implementation of the Pacific Islands Framework for Nature Conservation and Protected Areas and the Vemööre Declaration. The pillars guide collective work across protected areas, species and the people who steward them.
Members report annually against the Framework; published progress is reviewed by the PIRT Secretariat at SPREP and discussed at each Annual Meeting.

Recover threatened species and restore ecosystem function, including invasive species response across PICTs.
Embed nature in policy, planning, education, livelihoods and Pacific traditional knowledge.
Each working group convenes member organisations and partners around a thematic priority of the Framework. Membership is open to anyone with expertise in the area.
